Course Tutor: Naomi Rosenberg
This course is suitable for teachers, therapists, classroom assistants, and parents working with children, young people or adults with PMLD, SLD, ASD
This course will explore how using sounds and music with an additional sensory clue can make more impact, giving meaning and interest in terms of learning being retained. Resonance or Clonkerboards are like giant drums that can be sat around, or sat on to feel vibrations from voice or music. They are an extremely adaptable resource and this part of the course will offer lots of ways that they can be used to focus attention.
After lunch we will look at song and voice and how to encourage vocalisation.
Then there will be an introduction to Dance Massage which uses music as the main focus for massage. This is an intensive communication strategy that encourages listening and relating that to the physical sensation. It develops touch tolerance , trust and building relationships and offers dance to children and adults with PMLD that cannot get up and dance. We will finish with a wonderful short video of children enjoying Dance Massage.
